Help Wanted — Volunteer with SUAS Veteran Crisis QRF
S.U.A.S. Veteran Crisis QRF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to combat veteran isolation through peer support and community events. We are looking for skilled volunteers to help us reach more veterans.
Why this work matters
Veteran suicide kills roughly 17 veterans every day in the United States. Isolation is one of the largest drivers. SUAS exists to bridge that gap — BBQs, surfing, hiking, hunting, and simple stand-down events that pull veterans back into community.
We are a small team. Every hour a volunteer puts in is an hour we get to spend on the mission instead of on tech logistics.
What we need
Designers
Developers
- Site styling polish (Jekyll, CSS) — site is live but plain
- Custom domain setup for suasqrf.org — see #7
- Event calendar integration — see #6
- Time commitment: 4–20 hours
Writers and content people
- Leadership and board bios — see #5
- Testimonial / impact stories (with proper consent) — see #8
- Time commitment: 3–10 hours
Photographers and photo organizers
- Past event gallery — see #4
- Time commitment: 2–6 hours
Veterans (any skill level)
- Tell us your story so we can share it (with your permission)
- Share the site with veterans you know
- Show up at an event — sometimes that is the most valuable contribution
How to get involved
One: pick something
Browse open issues labeled good first issue or help wanted. Comment on the issue you want to claim.
Two: read the contributor guide
CONTRIBUTING.md covers what to do (and what to be careful about, since we serve veterans in crisis).
Three: ship the change
Open a pull request. We will review and merge.
What we will not ask of volunteers
- We will not ask you for money.
- We will not ask you for access to anyone’s personal computer.
- We will not ask you to interact with veterans in crisis without explicit training and consent — that work goes through trained peer counselors.
